Jim Owens - Technical Director

Indiana Limestone Director Jim OwensJim grew up in Bedford, Indiana, the heart of Indiana Limestone country. He is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and has served as the ILI's Executive Director for the past 19 years.

With his announcement of retirement from the ILI, Jim has graciously agreed to stay on as Technical Director for a period of time to insure the smooth transfer of the institute's responsibilities to the new Executive Director.  Jim continues to serve on the ASTM C-18 committee for dimensional stone as well as adviser to the Natural Stone Council.  Throughout this transition, Jim will continue his involvement in authoring technical publications for the industry and consulting with architects on a daily basis by assisting them with questions they may have about the use of Indiana Limestone.

Jim has written various articles for stone trade publications, including Stone World, Stone Industry News, Slippery Rock Gazette and the Masonry Institute of Michigan's Story Pole. He was a trustee and president of StonExpo, a national stone trade show, prior to its sale to Hanley-Wood. He frequently lectures to AIA groups and architectural students at various universities, including the University of Illinois and Notre Dame. Past presentations have included many AIA state conventions as well as masonry industry events across North America. He also does in-office presentations for architects from time to time, and ILI's presentations are certified by the AIA for continuing education units.
